Free Tricks and Treats
There is no shortage of ways to celebrate Halloween. But if you're looking for something free, here are two to check out. Old Pasadena will throw a Halloween shindig that runs from noon to midnight, although the big fun takes place from 4-7 p.m. when more than 75 Old Pasadena stores and restaurants participate in a free store-to-store trick-or-treating event. There will also be "haunted photos," pumpkins, costumed characters and other free activities (although the Old Town Haunt does cost $15). Down in Long Beach, Rancho Los Alamitos has its annual Fall Harvest Festival on Halloween day. This Pumpkin Fun Street Fair features a costume parade (2 p.m.), holiday-themed games and crafts, entertainment (like the Jumbo Shrimp Circus) and other family-friendly activities, along with the opportunity to explore the grounds of this historic ranch and gardens.
When: noon-midnight Sat., Oct. 31, Pasadena; noon-4:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 31, Rancho Los Alamitos.
Where: Old Pasadena and One Colorado, Pasadena; Rancho Los Alamitos, 6400 E. Bixby Hill Rd., Long Beach
